Andre Russell to Bid Farewell to International Cricket After Home T20Is
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell will bid farewell to his international career after the first two T20Is against Australia at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The 37-year-old will retire from international cricket after the matches on July 20 and 22, 2025.
Russell has represented T20I cricket only since 2019 and has 84 international caps. He is the second key West Indies player to retire in international cricket in two months following Nicholas Pooran. His retirement took West Indies selectors by surprise, with officials indicating that they were not expecting the move, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Russell played one Test and 56 ODIs for West Indies. He became known as a top T20 finisher worldwide. He was also an integral part of West Indies' T20 World Cup wins in 2012 and 2016.
Russell's retirement timing surprises many, coming seven months before the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February 2026. His departure will leave a huge void in West Indies' middle order batting and bowling.
Russell has 84 T20I caps, with three fifties and 61 wickets. He has represented more than 300 T20 matches in franchise leagues around the globe. Russell was named in the ESPNcricinfo T20 XI of 2016 and 2018.
The fans all over the world loved Russell because of his capacity to transform the game. In 2019, he was awarded the IPL Super Striker award with the highest strike rate of over 205. He was a complete T20 player with his strong batting and medium-pace bowling.
Having made his international debut in 2011, Russel quickly established himself as a vital West Indies player. His best international score is 92 not out against India in North Sound in 2011, the highest score by a number nine batsman in ODI cricket.
