Bangladesh won their first-ever T20I series against Pakistan yesterday. They beat Pakistan by 8 runs in the second match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The series is now 2-0 to Bangladesh with one match left.
Bangladesh made 133 all out in their 20 overs.
Pakistan got bowled out for 125 in 19.2 overs. Jaker Ali was the star for Bangladesh with 55 runs. Faheem Ashraf tried his best for Pakistan with 51 runs, but it wasn't enough.
Pakistan had a nightmare start chasing 134. They lost 5 wickets for just 15 runs. That's the worst start they've ever had in T20Is after losing 5 wickets. First, Saim Ayub got run out because of a mix-up. Then Mohammad Haris got out for a duck to Shoriful Islam. Fakhar Zaman threw his wicket away, caught behind for 8. Tanzim Hasan Sakib then got both Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz out in the same over. Both got ducks too.
Pakistan looked finished at 15 for 5. Captain Salman Agha tried to fix things but only made 9. When they were 47 for 7, everyone thought the game was over. But Faheem Ashraf had other ideas. He smashed the ball everywhere - 4 sixes and 4 fours. Abbas Afridi helped him too with 19 runs. Together they put on 41 runs and suddenly Pakistan had a chance again.
Ashraf got his fifty and Pakistan needed 13 runs from the last over. Ahmed Daniyal hit a four off the first ball. But he got caught off the second ball and that was it. Pakistan fell short by 8 runs.
Bangladesh built their total around Jaker Ali. He came in when they were struggling at 28 for 4. Ali stayed calm and played a smart knock. He added 53 runs with Mahedi Hasan who made 33. That partnership got Bangladesh to a score they could defend.
"We're losing early wickets. And I just talked to Shak; just play normal cricket, but he takes chances, and I just try to support him," Ali said after getting Player of the Match. "This is my plan for the situation. I just try to take the game deep and wait for my zone balls."
Shoriful Islam bowled really well for Bangladesh. He took 3 wickets for 17 runs. He got Mohammad Haris, Fakhar Zaman, and Abbas Afridi when Bangladesh needed wickets. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahedi Hasan took 2 wickets each.
Bangladesh captain Litton Das said the win was for people back home. "We know the event that happened yesterday was a heartbreaking moment for all the Bangladeshis. This series win is fully dedicated to the victims and to their families," he said.
Pakistan captain Salman Agha wasn't happy with how his team batted early on. "We thought 134 would be gettable but we lost too many wickets early on and that's something we must address quickly," he said. But he praised Ashraf's fighting knock. "The way Faheem batted. I think it's outstandingly well; he almost took the game away from them."
During the match, Fakhar Zaman broke a Pakistan record. He took a catch that was his 53rd in T20Is. That's more than Babar Azam's old record of 52 catches.
The last match is on Thursday at the same ground. Bangladesh will try to win 3-0. Pakistan will try to avoid getting whitewashed. Bangladesh are playing well in T20Is right now as they beat Sri Lanka 2-1 last month too.
