Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim finds himself at the center of a swirling controversy as allegations of an extramarital affair with social media influencer Nyla Raja. His wife Sannia Ashfaq's cryptic Instagram posts intensified speculation about their marriage's state.
The story began with viral video footage showing Imad walking with an unidentified woman in London. However, Pakistani cricket fans quickly connected this figure to Nyla Raja, a popular Instagram influencer, creating immediate speculation about the 36-year-old popular cricketer.
The timing proved damaging, coinciding with wife Sannia Ashfaq's birth announcement for their third child that pointedly excluded any reference to Imad."I carried you alone in my womb for 9 months. May Allah give me more strength for the journey ahead, Zayan," she wrote.
Also, Sannia had systematically removed all photographic documentation from Instagram while changing her bio from "Imad Wasim's wife" to "Mother of Anaya Imad and Rayan Imad."
While Imad Wasim has not responded yet to this controversy, Nyla Raja responded, denying these allegations. "Hello, I usually don't respond to rumours or speculation, but this has gone too far. I shared that story [with Imad Wasim] on my own Instagram. It wasn't hidden or secretive. How can a harmless Instagram story be the reason for someone's divorce? The video was zoomed in from one angle, deliberately ignoring the rest of the group who were present with us at the time," was her initial response.
However, on July 22, she responded again on her Instagram, revealing the personal toll of the controversy. "The last few days have been nothing short of a nightmare for me. I've been called names I never imagined I'd hear in my life: 'Imad Wasim ki mistress', 'rakhail', 'homewrecker', even 'kisi ke mard ke paison par palne wali.' Misleading clips were deliberately sent to my elders, the very people who've always held the highest respect for me."
Imad recently completed his second international retirement, ending a career spanning 130 matches from 2015-2024. His achievements include 1540 international runs and 117 wickets, with key contributions to Pakistan's 2017 ICC Champions Trophy victory as vice-captain.
His previous retirement reversal in 2024 followed exceptional Pakistan Super League performances with Islamabad United. The controversy also threatens his post-retirement opportunities too. Imad recently signed with Welsh county Glamorgan for the 2025 Vitality Blast, which might jeopardize his present position.
This controversy arrives during challenging times for Pakistan cricket. Recent team performance struggles combined with off-field incidents have created accumulated negative publicity, affecting the sport's commercial viability and public support.
